The 'Reach the Sea' Story

qts Custodians of an enduring artisanal heritage

Reach the Sea exists to celebrate the character, craftsmanship, and maritime traditions of Cornwall’s working coast. Operating from East Looe, at the heart of a harbour where fishing continues to shape daily life, we are inspired by a way of life that has endured for generations and continues to evolve with the times.

Since the opening of the modern fish auction in 1987, the site from which we operate has remained a focal point for the landing and trade of regional seafood. It stands as a continuation of a much older tradition, connecting the harvest of the sea with the people, businesses, and communities that depend upon it.

At Reach the Sea, provenance is more than a point of origin. It is an appreciation of place, an understanding of the people behind the harvest, and a respect for the natural rhythms that continue to govern life along the coast. Here, the season, the weather, and the tide still influence what comes ashore and when.

Guided by these values, we connect discerning chefs with exceptional coastal seafood whilst also championing comparable artisanal fisheries around the British Isles and working harbours and coastal communities.  Our role is simply to carry that legacy beyond the harbour, connecting chefs with the artisanal heritage, distinct provenance, and enduring character that make seafood from this region unlike any other.
